Graphic Novel

In the realm of graphic novels, I am relatively unfamiliar with most content. However, one such novel comes to mind.

Tank Girl.

A super-fantastic book about a girl, who drives a tank while being very loud and very punk. She is a hero amongst the underground. They made a movie based on it. That was..an experience especially since they let Courtney Love configure the soundtrack.

^A link.

A strange music-montage with clips from the movie. Good times.

Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amelie Poulain

Since films are on the mind at the moment--it would be downright shameful if I didn't post something about Amelie. Shameful!
This is perhaps the most beauteous film I have ever witnessed in this short lifetime. Such imagination and romance, that's all I could ask for. Also an amazing soundtrack by Yann tiersen. <3.

Here is the original trailer.

Now in English! (not as good but still a good trailer.)

Do with that what you will.

Film.

I have been meaning to blog about this film for a few months now. It is a relatively obscure movie that one of my friends, from the hometown, made me watch during a scrabble competition. (Yes, scrabble--words are cool).

It's called Fur. Along with being based on a real person with a fictitious male lead, Robert Downy Jr (or his body double) has the ass of a grecian god at some point during the movie.

This was a clip that someone made, on ze intrawebs.

Keeping all this in mind, I think it is perfectly rent-worthy and own-able.

Por Que?

Quay Brothers?
They are brothers, they are animators, they are not photogenic but they make fantastic little things.

This is a clip from the piece that was installed in one of our galleries.
I enjoyed their use of clocks and bits. The detail! The detail!

A note.

I have respectfully forgotten about this blog entirely.
For some reason I just cannot hold onto the concept of having more than three blogs at one time.

Expect more in the near future--as in tonight!

I will blog my little heart out. But for now, a clip.

I would like to get that good. (except for the end, that's just silly.)

Experimental film!

The long forgotten blog!

This is my venture into experimental film.

This project was inspired by my love of setting things on fire for the greater good. I used plastic army men and footage from around philadelphia. I will go back and edit out sections of this as well--but it's a work in progress for now. The person in this film besides myself was my friend Khrisha, he is my best prop.
There are voices in this as well, that is Rocky the Photographer.

RE-Up: Film screening

Ok, I'm certainly behind the times on all this blogging business. Blast!

Last friday we gathered as a collective time motion class and watched quite a few disturbing films.

I really couldn't get over the one with the very-hairy-arm-man who was cutting off blood to his hands until they turned purple.

And then there was this!

I really don't have any words for that. Except outside of the excerpt it's said he is actually masturbating underneath that table.
I suppose we call that art.

Art is what it is. Who am I to judge.

However that stuck around in the back of my head well into the weekend.
Thanks, Vito Acconci.

Old School!

On the subject of old school animation, I wandered the intraweb for quite a bit. I came across this ad from 1959 from Japan.

This amused me..for no real reason. That aside--while they were doing ^that in Japan in 1959.
Americaland was, for once, leaps and bounds ahead, technologically speaking.
Probably for the last time.

1959 in Americaland. Felix the Cat--in colour! (technocolor)

Speaking of old school which lead to this.

oh yes.... oh yes.

That is just amazing..and it leads back to animation!

full circle complete.

Cheers.

Oh My Oh My. Flip books.

Aloha. This is my completely-official-and-thought-to-be-long-lost-yet-slightly-revised-flipbook-blog-entry...

That's right.

For the animation elective class I am taking, we had to draw and shoot a 100 page flipbook. Something simple to test the waters of animation.
My little book was about a robot..he was happy. Until he crossed paths with a determined turtle intent on cross a lane. Who will conquer gravity?

I have to say, that there are some pages missing---so it goes pretty fast.
I also have to admit that while attempting to upload this video clip to youtube--
I released an explosion of colourful words. Tempers are a magnificent thing.

I also thought this was really cute. Heh.

cheers.

Optical Toys!

This will be my third attempt at posting this optical toys blog. I will smite it if it does not go through. again.

While wandering the vast regions on youtube, right after being distracted by chinese rap...(yes, chinese rap)..I found a clip of a phenakistoscope that made me rather dizzy.

Let us see if this worked out.

It's Friday I'm in Love!

It is now officially Friday.

I'm not exactly sure what is supposed to be posted for our second/first official blog but I think perhaps a few interesting photographs will do the trick.

The photograph above is by Rodney Smith who did/does surreal photography. I'm a fan of his work as of two days ago. The title is Man With Hat Over Face. I like this artist's work is because many time there is no face showing. It's men in suits doing obscure things in black and white. This makes me happy.

There were a few other photographs I wanted to post but I screwed it up. I'm not sure how to make the picture fit between beds of text.

More Later!

Test run

This is my first official post on this shiny new blog.
More to come!
